For humanities-led responses to current crises. The Edinburgh Environmental Humanities Network was set up in 2013. We are an interdisciplinary research network, interested in developing collaborative work in the Environmental Humanities throughout Scotland, the UK, and worldwide. Humanities scholars have an opportunity to reshape how we think about environmental problems and “the environment” itself.
Environmental Humanities is the leading international journal that aims to invigorate current interdisciplinary research on the environment from a humanities disciplinary perspective. In response to a growing interest around the world in the many questions that arise in this era of rapid environmental and social change, the journal publishes The term “environmental humanities” is both descriptive and aspirational: it has emerged over the last five years to capture already existing conjunctions across environmental philosophy, environmental history, ecocriticism, cultural geography, cultural anthropology, and political ecology, but it also seeks to integrate debates so far largely shaped by different disciplinary contexts. The environmental humanities (also ecological humanities) is an interdisciplinary area of research, drawing on the many environmental sub-disciplines that have emerged in the humanities over the past several decades, in particular environmental literature, environmental philosophy, environmental history, science and technology studies, and environmental anthropology.
